NO CARRIER is an ongoing real-time video performance project started in 2005. At that time, though there were many musicians performing 8-bit music using authentic (and nearly obsolete) video game hardware, there were very few visualists working with that hardware -- and fewer using their own custom software. I started performing under the alias NO CARRIER using Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) consoles from 1985, writing my own software in 6502 Assembly and creating my own EEPROM development cartridges. I've performed as NO CARRIER worldwide, in the US, South America, Europe, and Asia. I also lead workshops and give technical lectures on coding and hardware hacking.
In 2011, the NO CARRIER project expanded beyond the NES and into the realm of real-time video synthesis. I program a number of standalone and modular video synthesizers to generate synthesized abstract patterns using video oscillators and colorization techniques.

This entire performance uses only two Nintendo consoles running my original software. The flashing abstract images and and patterns are controlled by button presses and mixed using the Edirol V4 in real time.
